Fall Creek Falls' Annual Mountaineer Folk Festival

The Longest Yard Sale is near, the start of school is near, football practice is underway and the Annual Mountaineer Folk Festival isn't too far off!

It's seems hard to think about Fall activities when summer fun is still upon us. But you need to mark your calendar for the 5th, 6th and 7th of September when Fall Creek Falls will be full of natural crafts, food and events! Four outdoor stages will feature Bluegrass, Country, Gospel and Mountain Ballads. Homemade foods will tempt your tummy and the folks will treat you so many ways you're bound to like one of them!

My yard sale is bigger than your yard sale?

It's almost that time again where the truly hardy bargain hunters pack up their cars, trucks and station wagons (also known as SUVs, crossovers and gas guzzlers) and head for the World's Longest Yard Sale!

The first Thursday in August sets many of these folks hearts a fluttering just thinking about all the goodies they might see and believe me there is alot to see. Miles of smiles will be found from Defiance, Ohio to Gadsden, Alabama people will be wheelin' and dealin'.

Hwy 127 is the fabled route and Rita Pruett, inn keeper at Fall Creek Falls Bed & Breakfast, tells me she always has a few guests who take the opportunity to enjoy a little R&R at her place when they're not shopping for bargains.

Better get your reservations in now so you don't miss out on Doug's homemade biscuits! You might even take a stroll down Elvis Presley Boulevard while you're there!

The best time to go to a bed and breakfast

When is the best time to go to a bed and breakfast? The answer is -- it depends! What are you looking for in a bed and breakfast? Do you want security, safety, relaxation, entertainment? A variety of suitable venues await you.

You can find historic homes rich in history and filled with antiques in an urban setting. Here you can partake of all the nearby city has to offer. Often you can time your visit with activities going on in or near the city and enjoy a vacation with the comforts of home.

FCF and other B&Bs can offer a more pastoral setting. For those who like to get away from the hurried pace of the city these offer a peaceful respite from the hustle of the everyday world.

Imagine waking up to the robins singing in the trees, a slight mist is rising from the open fields in front of the treeline as the moring sun climbs into the sky. Downstairs a homemade breakfast wafts its way to your senses and your decision is whether to go or just sleep in. Nearby there is horseback riding, hiking, fishing, golf and even spelunking!

So when is it the best time to visit a B&B? Whenever it suits you! If you like the spring flowers, the summer fun, the fall colors or the peacefulness of a silent winter's day you'll find a B&B that can fill the bill.
