Update for Mountaineer Folk Festival at Fall Creek Falls State Park

The Mountaineer Festival is right around the corner and this release gives you an idea of some of the fun filled activities that await you:

Norman Blake, noted Musician and Singer, to be featured this Sunday, September 7 at the Mountaineer Folk Festival at Fall Creek Falls State Park.

Norman Blake, well known singer and guitar picker, will be the featured artist this Sunday, September 7, at the Mountaineer Folk Festival at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Mr. Blake, with his wife Nancy, has been a regular on the folk circuit since the 60’s, and has played back up to greats such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. He was recently recognized for his contribution to the Grammy winning album from “O’Brother, Where Art Thou?”. He is set to perform at 2:45p.m. Other groups that day include the West Girls, Hickory Wind, the Bac Trak’ers, Just Looking Around, the Lewis Sisters, and more.

Olympian Margaret Hoelzer, who won three medals at the recent Beijing Olympics will be there on Sunday morning at 10a.m. to meet folks, and show her medals. Margaret has been a regular to the Park, and to the Mountaineer Folk Festival over the past years, and a lot of people are excited about her return from Beijing with her two Silver medals, and one Bronze, which she won in swimming events. So this is a great time to meet a real Olympian!

This is the 30th year for the Mountaineer Folk Festival, and it promises to be the biggest and best yet. There will be over 100 crafters scattered throughout Festival grounds with an incredible variety of hand crafted goods, every thing from hand tooled leather, to beautiful pottery, jewelry, woodworking, and stained glass art. There are two stages of music going all weekend, and a variety of pioneer demonstrations set up through out the festival grounds. Home cooked-style meals are offered up by local non-profit groups, such as churches and fire departments.

Fall Creek Falls State Park, located atop the beautiful Cumberland Plateau, has been recognized as being one of the top family destinations in the Southeast. It is Tennessee’s largest state park, and most developed, with an Inn and Conference Center, 30 cabins, 244 campsites, and a golf course. But the natural beauty of its canyons, waterfalls, and rich forests are what draw people back year after year. To find out more about the Festival, call (423) 881-5708.
